Clip #2:
You Need Quicktime!
The next clip is from about the 6 minute to 11 minute mark. You'll note I'm still into the review/quiz. As I stated earlier, I thought this lasted too long, though I was satisfied with some of the conversations that emerged.
At the end of this 11 minutes stint, it seems the kids are still engaged to a degree, but their interest is beginning to wane.

So, I went and taught 5th grade for a few days in Feb. It was great to get back ino the classroom. I have broken the video up in small increments and have a brief explanation on each one. Push the

button to begin.
In this clip you'll see I introduce the lesson. I went over objectives and the agenda. Our first part of this is to take a quiz/review on previously taught material. This lasted longer than I wanted, partly because I didn't anticipate answering the questions as in depth as I wanted to.
Keep in mind that I wanted to remember the 10 minute rule throughout the whole lesson. This roughly is the first five minutes of the class.

The review/quiz is now finished after a few more minutes and I introduce what the students will be doing with their Investigations lesson. In this case, writing down all the different ways to represent 1/10 using the grids shown on the overhead.

For the last portion of the video (minutes 19-27) we continue our discussion and the investigations lesson. About three quarters through this section, I attempt an ECS (Brain Rules readers know what I'm talking about here). Though it was effective in terms of diverting attention with humor, it doesn't tie in to the overall content. That's hard to do! It's something I have to work on, especially for 1st grade coming up in a few weeks.
